2024 is shaping out to be a game-changing year for UK esports. This year alone four of the world’s biggest game publishers in Ubisoft, Epic Games, Valve corporation & Riot Games are choosing the UK as a destination for their esports ecosystems and arena events - helping position the region as a global hub for esports and big-scale events.BLAST is hosting three tier one esports events in the United Kingdom over the next three months along with a number of other high-profile events taking place throughout the year.- BLAST Rainbow Six Manchester Major at BEC Arena: May 16-26- BLAST Premier Spring Final atOVO Arena Wembley: June 12-16- RLCS London Major atThe Copper Box Arena: June 20-23Being able to bring three of the world's most popular esports titles to the United Kingdom is a very proud moment for BLAST and we are focussed on creating an esports summer that will live long in the memory for the UK community and fans all around the world. The UK currently has an 8% share of the global esports industry, these events will not only help grow that number while creating opportunities for fans to watch world-class esports, but they will also contribute to important economical investment to the United Kingdom. These three events are forecasted to contribute £28 million to the local economy. It's important we make the most of this incredible year for UK esports, by ensuring it provides a lasting legacy from grassroots teams all the way through to tier one organisations.

Exciting times ahead for esports! Check how True Gamers' groundbreaking facility in Abu Dhabi is revolutionizing the industry landscape 🚀The announcement of True Gamers´s $280 million esports facility in Abu Dhabi marks a significant milestone in the industry. This not only showcases the region's commitment to esports, but significantly challenges the usual thinking that esports' topography is primarily concentrated in Western nations. So, what does this ambitious project mean?Well, it tells us that dominance in esports is geographic no longer. Abu Dhabi’s investment in hosting a facility of this scale signals a serious intent to establish itself as a global esports hub. It brings home the message that locations that have long been on the sidelines of the esports movement are waking up to their potential and are ready to be change-makers.This mega project, set up with the support of over a hundred esports organizations, holds key learnings for regions around the globe. It challenges them to question - Why not us? Why are we not leveraging our potential and resources to carve out a place in the booming esports landscape?Let's embrace this game-changing opportunity. Let's invest in fostering our regional talents, let's support our gaming communities. Let's be part of this evolving esports narrative and let's shape its future. So, the question I leave you with is this - What do you think other regions can learn from Abu Dhabi's bold approach to investing in esports facilities? And, more than that, how can they act on it? Looking forward to an exciting discussion. Well done Vlad Belyanin!

🎮 It has been a big week for esports with the League of Legends World Championship (Riot Games) and The International Dota 2 tournament (Valve corporation) in full swing attracting eyes online and in-person. Stadia are set to be filled for the final stages of the respective tournaments in Seattle and across multiple major cities in South Korea in what is a big week for the esports community.❓ Our recent SEER report reveals that only 3% of hosts say esports events offer them their best return on investment despite esports competitions being able to deliver unmatched access to a traditionally hard-to-reach demographic and global exposure through streaming.🏙 Reflecting on our work in the esports space, our recent SEER report has shown that there is a vast addressable market for esports and with relatively low hosting fees, cities can unlock great impacts for their communities by investing in esports events. With Microsoft’s well-documented acquisition of Activision Blizzard closing this week, this leaves the tech powerhouse as the as the new custodians of Overwatch and Call of Duty and their competitive leagues which could spell major changes for the future of both games’ competitive scenes. It’s an exciting time for esports and in our SEER reportFiona Unwin, Senior Consultant at TSC, explains how esports brands and host cities can overcome this disconnect to form relationships and drive impact.Link to the full report in the comments below.Angus Buchanan Robert Datnow Matt Wilson Fraser Houlder Kirsten Sibbit-Johnston Sian Jenkins Pascal Foster Michael Canty Samina Musa

Evo 2024 was one of the biggest esports events of all-time! More than 10,000 competitors showed up to compete, making it the largest Evolution Championship Series ever, and the biggest esports event ever in terms of active players. Our team was on-the-ground covering the event and gathering interviews for an upcoming special project in collaboration with Cash App. 🕹 The main event this year was Street Fighter 6. And on Sunday night, Punk stood above them all as the second-ever SF6 Evo world champion 🎮 Arslan Ash dominated the biggest Tekken tournament in history, triumphing over 4,646 players as the first ever Tekken 8 Evo world champion 🕹 The main takeaway with Evo is always a constant: this is a massive, diverse audience of incredibly passionate fans. No matter what esports looks like in the future, the Fighting Games Community is going to be a big part of it In other news, the International Olympic Committee announced the creation of the Olympic Esports Games recently. 🎮 The first installment of the games will take place in 2025 but what we don’t know yet is what games will be featured 🕹 The IOC has been testing gaming since 2018 and hosted an esports week last year, but they didn’t feature any of the major esports titles 🎮 The big takeaway here is a big investment from a large traditional sports body in esports and gaming going forward. But for it to be done right it needs to feature games like League of Legends and Counter Strike to be taken seriously by the esports worldIf there’s something that you want to see covered on Run it Down in the future, or you’re looking to chat some esports with fellow enthusiasts, hit us up at tips@thescore.com!

Big news in the Esports industry! Rivalry, a major player in Esports betting and media, has announced a collaboration with Mohan “Launders” Govindasamy for a new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament. Aptly named the Launders LAN, this follows up the successful FragFest that took place back in January. The scale of Launders LAN is impressive, doubling the number of teams from 16 to 32 and boasting a prize pool of approximately $7.4k USD. In addition, the event will take place in Toronto and can accommodate 600 attendees. The expansion indicates a growing interest in Esports, not just as a popular pastime but a serious competitive platform. This development is exciting for stakeholders in the industry as it indicates the potential for growth and expansion. For newcomers, it represents an emerging opportunity in the ever-evolving Esports landscape. Additional offerings like exclusive merchandise and contests also add value for participants and attendees. We at Winzard, as an expert full-service agency focused on the Gaming and Esports markets, believe this is an indication of the rapid expansion and engagement we're witnessing in the industry. As new collaborations and events continue to amplify the Esports space, we are excited to stay at the forefront, providing our expertise to our clients. This update comes from the Esports Advocate, and we eagerly await more details about the Launders LAN in the future.

🏅 The first Olympic Games in esports will be held in 2025 in Saudi ArabiaThe International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that the first Olympic Esports Games will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2025 as part of a 12-year collaboration with the country’s Olympic Committee. The host city, venues, and dates of the competition have not yet been determined, as well as the games and qualification process for each. The IOC says that international federations and national Olympic committees that are already involved in the digital version of their sport and esports in general will be its first partners. The organization took a similar approach to last year’s event, where players competed in Gran Turismo, Fortnite, Just Dance, Zwift, and other games.Of course, the IOC is looking to attract other popular esports disciplines. The organization is in talks with the publishers of Rocket League, Street Fighter, and the largest esports game, League of Legends. The Olympic Games in esports may be held every two years. South Korea and the United States are in talks to host future esports Olympics. The IOC had been debating for years whether to host an official esports event under its flag and finally decided to take the plunge. However, the choice of Saudi Arabia as the host of the first Olympic Games in esports is surprising given the terrible human rights record of the country. The country uses sports and other events to try to clean up its image. It is investing billions of dollars in esports and gaming companies, establishing partnerships with publishers, and hosting the World Esports Championship with a $60 million prize pool.
