Food Recall: TK Maxx & Homesense Kintra Organic Teas (2)

UK/London: TK Maxx and Homesense, both Watford, Hertfordshire, England establishments, recall certain batch/lots of Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas from the British marketplace due to suspected insect contamination and consequential risks of bacterial infection, choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and sepsis, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize pain and suffering as well as prevent life-altering injury or death.

Additional information:
The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Leaf Teas are subject to recall:

  • Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Calm & Relax Pack, sold in 60 gram packages with a batch/lot code of 6057, 6071, 6118, 6126 or 6207
  • Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Chamomile Pack, sold in 40 gram packages with a batch/lot code of 5887 or 6111
  • Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Sleepy Pack, sold in 40 gram packages with a batch/lot code of 6058, 6102 or 6125

==> No barcodes, EANs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FSA, TK Maxx and Homesense have recalled certain batch/lots of Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas from the British marketplace due to suspected insect contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Organic Premium Leaf Teas identified above.

In general, if insect fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Tea products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-9-9, your closest hospital A&E or emergency centre equipped to properly treat bacterial contamination, choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, bowel obstruction/perforation and/or sepsis.
